K-Works Studio won the competition for Bigger Than a Breadbox, Smaller Than a Building in Boston. The 70 foot canopy was made out of discarded, unused toilet paper collected from airport bathrooms – a typical practice in most all large buildings who can’t afford to pay janitors to check more frequently for empty rolls; so instead they discard and replace partial rolls. This installation exposes the strange and wasteful consumer cycles we don’t see all around us. The work was donated afterward to become a permanent part of the Boston Children’s Museum collection.
